IXOPAY as a Technical Service Provider under PSD2

Our clients use the payment orchestration platform IXOPAY to forward inbound transaction details to online payment service providers like banks and other acquirers. Such transaction forwarding makes it possible for merchants to process purchases, manage risk and flow strategies, and more.

Our payment platform controls the stream of information between merchants and multiple PSPs but not the actual transfer of the funds. In this sense, and as defined in Article 3 litera j in the Payment Services Directive (PSD2), IXOPAY acts as a technical service provider: we support the provision of payment services, without entering into possession of the funds to be transferred at any time.

We are proud to be the choice of licensed financial institutions for managing payment transactions. IXOPAY must, thus, fulfill the strict licensing requirements of the Austrian Financial Market Authority and is subject to its audit activities. 

In addition to PSD2, data protection law applies to IXOPAY's services. The PSPs connected to our payment orchestration platform independently determine which data to process for carrying out the transfer of funds. In rendering their services, PSPs perform their contracts with their customers (i.e., our clients’ merchants) and, thus, act as controllers under data protection law.
